A jury Tuesday recommended 60-day sentences and $2,500 fines for the great-grandparents of a child who died in a car in a Walmart parking lot. Washington County Circuit Judge William Storey handed the sentences down immediately.
William Staten, 51, and Margette Staten, 61, were found guilty Dec. 6 of misdemeanor negligent homicide in Springdale District Court. Judge Ernest Cate sentenced them each to one year in jail. The sentences handed down Tuesday were the result of an appeal.
